NLG-NYC to Governor Cuomo: No Brinksmanship on Tenant Protection

On Friday, May 27th, the New York City Chapter of the National Lawyers Guild called on Governor Cuomo to use the full powers of his office to renew and strengthen the rent laws before the allies of the real estate industry in Albany are permitted to hijack the process with 11th hour brinksmanship. The Open Letter was endorsed by over 40 tenant and community organizations.

This pattern of abusing the legislative process has been repeated each time the rent laws have been up for renewal since 1993.  We want to bring this past practice to the attention of the Governor as well as the public. At a minimum, we want to expose these treacherous legislative tactics and the malignant consequences they have had for housing policy.
