NLG-NYC Lawyers Write Letter to Brookfield on Behalf of Occupy Wall Street
Read the letter written by Guild attorneys representing the OWS Sanitation Working Group, posted below.
2011-10-13 Brook Field Properties Letter
Watch the Guild’s Gideon Oliver discuss the letter with Keith Olbermann:
SUPPORT THE NATIONAL LAWYERS GUILD-NEW YORK CITY CHAPTER (NLG-NYC) IN SUPPORTING OCCUPY WALL STREET!
Please make a financial contribution of any amount to the NLG-NYC chapter and its Mass Defense Committee to ensure Legal Observers are on the streets and attorneys are in the courts to support the Occupy Wall Street movement. All NLG-NYC Legal Observers (the “Green Hats”) and attorneys are volunteers, but overhead costs are piling up for the many new “Green Hats” being issued, office supplies, telephone and cell phone calls, late night taxi trips to far-flung precincts, etc. Click here to support our work.
What to Do if You Were Arrested or Received a Summons at Occupy Wall Street
If you have been arrested at Occupy Wall Street, please contact the NLG-NYC at 212-679-6018.
If you received a Desk Appearance Ticket (DAT), download our fact sheet on what to expect at your first court appearance.
If you received a summons, download our fact sheet on what to expect at your first court appearance.
NLG-NYC Mass Defense Committee Mobilizes for Occupy Wall Street
Since September 17, the NLG-NYC Mass Defense Committee has provided critical legal support for the Occupy Wall Street demonstrations and encampment. Dozens of NLG-NYC Legal Observers continue to monitor police activity while protestors carry the NLG-NYC hotline number (shown above) on their persons in case of arrest . NLG-NYC attorneys are currently organizing legal support for over 80 arrestees. The protests have recently received wide spread media coverage in the NYTimes, The East Villager and AMNY after video footage of police kettling and pepper spraying of demonstrators was posted on youtube.

Anti-Racism Committee to Host Fundraising Party on July 28 in Brooklyn
Help support the NLG-NYC’s Anti-Racism Committee’s (ARC) fundraising initiative for the Student, Recent Grad and Legal Worker of Color Travel Stipend to the NLG’s National Convention in October 2011.
NLG-NYC ARC works to further the Guild’s commitment to racial justice. Fundraising for the travel stipend is an important component of anti-racist work in the Guild because it promotes the legal education, viewpoints, and work of people of color within our membership and programs as well as the radical community at large.
The Fundraising Party will be held on Thursday, July 28, from 6:00pm to 10:00pm, at Berry Park in Williamsburg, Brooklyn! The suggested donation is $10 – $250. Donations will be accepted by credit card, cash or check.
If you are unable to attend, please help support the next generation of students, lawyers, and legal workers of color by donating and encouraging friends and colleagues to donate what they can and spread the word to others. Make an online donation!
