We are no longer accepting applications for the 2011-2012 mentorship program. Please check back in Spring 2012!

The Guild Mentorship Project was created to support radical and progressive law students, promote new leadership within the Guild and develop lasting bonds among our members. We link law students, recent graduates, and legal workers with experienced Guild attorneys and legal workers. Mentors offer guidance and support for less experienced members and are encouraged to attend Guild events together and meet several times a year.

Only dues-paying members of the NYC Chapter will be provided with a mentor. The duration of matches will be for one year from the date of assignment, unless the mentor and mentee express a desire to maintain their formal relationship for a longer period.

Recent graduates and new attorneys, law students, and legal workers can join the program through filling out an application. The student chapter representative at each law school will make the application form available to students.

Lawyers, Law Students and Legal Workers

Attorney mentors will be assigned to either a law student or recent law school graduate. Whenever possible, we connect Guild legal workers mentees with more experienced Guild legal workers mentors but if a legal worker mentor is not available, we will link the legal worker mentee with an attorney mentor.

Responsibilities of Mentors and Mentees

In order to make sure that the program is fun and effective for everyone, all participants must commit to do the following:

  • Reach out to your mentor/mentee within two weeks of being paired. Do this by phone or email! Make sure this happens!!!!
  • Attend the quarterly mentor-mentee mixers that will be organized by the Next Gen Committee.*
  • Meet with your mentor/mentee outside of official Mentor Project events throughout the mentorship period.
  • Fill out the (short) feedback form at the end of the year.

* We know it may not be possible to attend all four, but we strongly encourage you to try!
